Michele Solberg Beyond the Blue
An old farm house across from a medieval church on a tiny island off the coast of Denmark has a cramped attic with peeling wallpaper that hides walls of a brilliant blue. While remodeling the old attic room, Austin singer-songwriter Michele Solberg uncovered the hidden treasure of brightness. She set up a borrowed eight-track in the blue room and created a fitting soundtrack to the journey that took her there. Solberg returned to America in the fall after two years in Denmark with twelve songs inspired by her voyage, life abroad and a complicated love. "Beyond the Blue," the first new album in three years, is the bright blue hope of a triumphant Austin, Texas homecoming. Intensely personal, it at the same time reflects universal truths that are a part of every life. |

Michele Solberg Michele Solberg
| "Michele Solberg's voice is quite an instrument. Shifting gears from demanding yell to intimate whisper to ethereal falsetto with gut-wrenching, Sinead-like abruptness transform her already strong melodies into the kind of aural experience that makes you writhe in your seat." - Tom Ragle, Austin Music and Entertainment Magazine "The voice of Michele Solberg is a wondrous, dextrous instrument capable of mystic swirls, airy trills, emotive swoops and dark-hued chants, and she has the intelligence, imagination and originality to use it like a masterís pallette." -Austin Chronicle "Michele Solberg -- Her voice is like Natalie Merchant's with a lot more soul thrown in, and her songwriting is as intelligent as anything people twice her age put out." **** (out of five) - Chris Gray, The Daily Texan Michele Solberg's debut self-titled CD evokes images of everything from running through fields of daisies to dark, smoky and mysterious lounges. Throaty and seductive one moment, high, innocent, and waiflike the next, Michele's remarkable vocal dexterity gracefully wraps around her china-doll-esque melodies. |

Blue Noise Band Brad Green From Queens
| Brad Green from Queens is still sitting on a car somewhere drinking a beer and wondering why such an amazing record was named after him. This sophomore effort from the Blue Noise Band shows more growth than most bands experience in their entire career. The solid and smooth sound of jazz brings you into a world of power rock, klezmer, techno, blues and grooves that make you wonder how such moments could even be captured in a live studio session. The full timbres of sax, guitar, bass, drums, various horns and cello along with the talent of these players supports the strength of the song writing. Sometimes serious but not for long, this record is a must for any one who even remotely believes themselves to have eclectic taste. Blue Noise Band was Voted #1 Band in Austin by City Search Best of Poll. |

Blue Noise Band Multi-Purpose
| Blue Noise Band was Voted #1 Band in Austin by City Search Best of Poll. Since 1997, the Blue Noise Band has been playing their ever-evolving brand of jazz-plus around Austin, Texas, setting up camp everywhere from hipster jazz joints to punk dives. 'Multi-Purpose' finds the Blue Noise Band playing live in the studio, augmented on several tracks by an impressive cast of Austin music luminaries, including Graham Reynolds of the Golden Arm Trio on organ, violinist Govinda, and saxophonist Paul Klemperer. From the Cubano-Slavic rave-up of "Ricky Ricardo's Balkan Dance Party" to the neck-snapping stylistic slalom course "Cookies," 'Multi-Purpose' treads a fine line between compositional rigor and improvisational madness, capturing the Blue Noise Band at their total manic finest. "Just when you think they're about to pitch woo in the direction of the brunch crowd, this avant-jazz quartet throws in some heinous kink that's guaranteed to send migas down the wrong pipe." - The Austin Chronicle |

Bongo Hate Plastastic
| "Plastastic" is the psycho-adventure mind-trip of Tim, 24-year-old Gen X-er, who we find sleeping on a beach in Mexico as the story begins. A psychedelic brew of 70's funk, '80's new wave and 90's techno sounds, Plastastic squirms its way into that subconscious part of the brain that no one wants to admit exists. Disturbing and ballsy, riveting and quirky. "...It's sort of "The Wall" for the MTV generation." -XL-ent "Self-conscious weirdness aside, though, Plastastic is a fun little disc, peppered with quirky melodic turns and lyrical observations like "You can't be cool with a paperclip on your nose." Just keep it turned down low or it won't leave you alone! " - Ken Lieck, Austin Chronicle Headed up by Benjamin McDonald formerly of the Duckhills, Bongo Hate combines the strangest influences of Pink Floyd, Ween, Stones, your craziest fever dreams with Ben's unique sensibility. |

Bongo Hate hi-flavour (EP)
| "...four slices of pop so pure that the opening track sounds for all the world like David Bowie writing for the Banana Splits. That's not to say this is predictable guitar-bass-drums-and-nothing-else music. The guys still remember what they learned in XTC class, and apply that knowledge well, with much electronic gee-whiz noise and vocal effects in evidence. The strangeness, however, never overwhelms the music, making this a catchy, oft-repeatable disc. Exemplary." -Ken Lieck, Austin Chronicle Hi-Flavour blitzes the listener with images of MTV, hot lazy summer days spent cruising down the drag with the top down, and sugar spun likenesses of 80's pop and drama of the 70's arena. Pop in its purest form, the way it was meant to be, These four catchy and edible tracks bounce along the walls of your brain and give a rush - not recommended for severe diabetics... |

Shane Cannedy Tapioca (EP)
| "Shane...combines the seasoned honesty of Kristofferson in his heyday (although most find Shane's voice much more pleasing) with the raw emotion of an early Elvis." A songwriter and performer that stands out through time uncontestedly great! If you've ever been to Abilene, Texas, you've seen a city at the crossroads of nowhere, sharp with contradiction. On one side of town, hills tower on the horizon, green with trees and streams, alive with deer and armadillos; on the other is the edge of the flatland, panhandle-esque dreariness broken only by random mesquites and derelict oil pumps. It's three hours drive to a really big city, and that's only if you count Midland. Abilene is where Shane Cannedy grew up, where he learned to play guitar, and where his first songs got airplay on the local stations when he was still in high school. It's been six years since Shane first moved to Austin, but his music still echoes with the contrasts of his hometown, the loneliness of the back roads and the weight of small town life. On Tapioca, Shane's debut CD, his songs make these things personal. With a unique combination of humor and introspection, he sends scathing black Valentines, takes jabs at self-pity, and watches the nuclear family meltdown, with a style that moves from a neurotic country twang to a beseeching wail, to a charismatic growl, to subtle subversive intensity. Having played regularly at the Cloakroom and O'Henry's Back Forty here in Austin, Shane is stretching his creative wings now, writing, singing and playing acoustic guitar. His current band--Rick Poss on guitar, Konrad Meissner on drums, Stewart Cochran on keyboards and backup vocals, and J. Cleaves on bass--have joined Shane for dynamic shows at the Cactus CafÈ;, Stonehouse Brewery, Ruta Maya Coffee House, Flipnotics, Steamboat and Chicago House. He's brought himself a long way from Abilene; with a release of Tapioca on Chocolate Records, Shane Cannedy is a fresh wind or creativity, a musician of unfolding potential and a performer to keep an eye on..... --James Beard |

| "Mixing phat beats with acoustic strings ... elicits two emotions at once: One floating and just out of reach, the other thickly visceral." -The Austin Chronicle Move Divine is the debut release of Govinda, aka, Shane Madden, classically-trained violinist. Often referred to as an "ambient psycho gypsy", Govinda weaves a seductive tapestry of violin and guitar with trip-hoppy techno, along with the musical offerings of guest artists as Gemma Cochran and Mohammed Firoozi. |

Laurie Freelove Songs From The Nineline
| "...hauntingly stark, lonesome and beautiful. Her material is emotionally packed and demands that the listener listen....When she is making music, this diminutive woman is a giant." New York Post "Unearthly and edgy, her music invites comparisons to Kate Bush in her more extreme flights of fancy or to the intensity of Marianne Faithful's 'Broken English.' " Rolling Stone "Her songs hang in the air long after they're over and a feeling of warmth and belong soon follow. Freelove's amazing voice blows away any other female vocalist I've ever heard except maybe Joni Mitchell or Patti Smith." JAG "Song From The Nineline" presents rare live recordings of Laurie Freelove in the 1990's. With the entrancing harmonizing vocals of british born Gemma Cochran, Laurie creates mystical and raw emotional landscapes which haunt and intrigue. Whether alone or accompanied by a full band, Laurie maintains her unblinking clarity of passion and expression. |
